Recentemente ficou devidamente "confirmado" que a concha das fotografias tráta-se mesmo de um espécime jovem de caracol nativo endêmico ameaçado de extinção 

Megalobulimus sp

conforme consta no comunicado a seguir:

Your above pubication is still online with   erroneous images of "Achatina" - it is a juvenile specimen of Megalobulimus   sp. This can have a detrimental effect on the native land snails of your   area and the images must be removed.

MSc Miguel de Bethencourt   has confirmed to me that my appraisal of his photos have been correct and   "Your words made us think that by accident, it may be that Achatina cluches   come contaminated with some eggs of Megalobulimus. "

Continued use the photos can lead to physical   attacks on native snails as they cause confusion with with the exotic invading   snail.

Este revelador fato "mais uma vez" demonstra e ilustra nítidamente a "crítica situação" existente no meio quanto a "confusão" de espécies nativas endêmicas e ameaçadas de extinção com o caracol exótico gigante africano Achatina (Lissachatina) fulica entre leigos, técnicos e até especialistas.
