For lovers of chitons (polyplacophorans) here is a reconstructed `Paleozoic specimen with two sets of five side plates that look not unlike modern chiton plates, a head and tail plate, again that could pass as a chiton's, and five narrow central plates, with a heavily spined girdle.
Note the name: Protobalanus spinicoronatus, which implies that this was assumed to be a barnacle when named. Welcome to the mollusca!
